SUMMARY:Engaging Diverse Communities Through Financial Education and Empowerment
DESCRIPTION:In April\, join the AoD Disability Employment Technical Assistance Center (DETAC) for a webinar to increase awareness about National Financial Capability Month. Financial education is a key first step on the pathway towards financial health and wellbeing to live more independently in the community. The Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities funded a three-year initiative with the National Disability Institute (NDI) called Financial Wellness for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). The panel will highlight how this train-the-trainers model in Illinois provided training to individuals with I/DD and their family members to manage money\, reduce debt\, and use credit wisely. The training was customized based on individualized needs ranging from a short class to a 10-module curriculum. While we often focus on helping people with disabilities find jobs\, this webinar will highlight a model to ensure we also provide a roadmap on the importance of making good financial decisions to further increase independence. SUMMARY:Managing the High Maintenance Resident
DESCRIPTION:Some alarming statistics: \n\nAccording to a poll taken just before the pandemic\, 84% of people think Americans are angrier than a generation before and 42% admitted that they themselves were angrier. (CBS Boston)\nA survey found 43% of customers yelled or raised their voice to express displeasure about their most serious problem\, up from 35% in 2015. (NPR.org)\n\nOur job is to deliver value and satisfy our customers while maintaining fair housing compliance through consistency and equality of treatment. The challenge is to maintain our professional attitude in an increasingly hostile environment\, especially when working with customers who may be overly demanding\, rude and generally unpleasant! SUMMARY:HUD’s New Guidance on Criminal Activity and Housing
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and its office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) are working to make it easier for people with a criminal record to find housing. In a memo sent out to staff on April 19\, 2022 HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge instructed HUD Multifamily to review programs and policies that may “pose barriers to housing for persons with criminal histories or their families.” On June 10\, 2022\, FHEO implemented previously issued Guidance on Applying the Fair Housing Act to Use of Criminal Records by Housing Providers. Since then FHEO has provided training on Strategies for Addressing Discrimination: Housing Providers Use of Criminal Records to Fair Housing advocacy groups who investigate\, test\, and bring charges against housing providers. Find out how these initiatives will impact the way you do business. This course is applicable to all properties subject to the Fair Housing Act. \nLearn more and register!

SUMMARY:HSRC Webinar - Expanding Access to Service Coordination: Two Models of Braiding Funding
DESCRIPTION:HSRC Webinar – Expanding Access to Service Coordination: Two Models of Braiding Funding\nWednesday\, January 31\, 2024 | 2:00-3:00 PM ET \nService coordination can help people achieve and maintain housing stability\, wellness\, and independence by identifying and connecting the services and supports they want and need. Examples of service coordination activities include person-centered counseling\, options counseling\, care coordination\, and care management. \nMany older adults\, people with disabilities\, and people who are experiencing (or are at risk of experiencing) homelessness would benefit from improved access to service coordination. One strategy to increase access to service coordination is “braiding\,” which involves lacing funds from multiple sources\, each funding unique activities\, together to support a common goal while maintaining the specific program identity of each individual funding source. \nThis Housing and Services Resource Center (HSRC) webinar will feature two models for braiding funding streams across sectors to maximize the use of existing resources and broaden access to service coordination in a sustainable way. Presenters will discuss program structure\, funding and braiding process\, partnerships\, and outcomes. Webinar participants from disability and aging networks and in health\, homelessness\, and housing organizations will gain ideas for adapting these models to extend access to service coordination throughout their communities. \nThis webinar is part of an HSRC series on partnerships between systems that can help older adults\, people with disabilities\, and people experiencing homelessness access all available resources and ultimately secure stable housing in the community. Find recordings and materials from previous webinars and learn about the latest housing resources on the HSRC What’s New page. \nClick here to register. \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on joining the webinar. The event will include real-time CART captioning and ASL interpreting. If you need additional accommodations to participate or have questions\, please email HSRC@acl.hhs.gov.
