Communications Intern

Maryland Inclusive Housing Corporation (MIH) is looking for a passionate and professional individual to join our team. The Communications Intern is a part-time position and reports to the Director of Communications.  The Communications Intern will assist the Director of Communications in several aspects of MIH’s communications efforts.

This focus of the position will be to assist the Director of Communications to amplify the message of affordable housing for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

About Maryland Inclusive Housing (MIH):   

MIH was created to help people with IDD successfully access and maintain inclusive, affordable and accessible housing of their choice by creating opportunities, identifying resources, connecting people and providing services.

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Work with Director of Communications to coordinate MIH’s social media channels and campaigns.
    Monitor social media trends in the IDD and Housing worlds. Be able to share information.
    – Work with Director of Communications to regularly post on MIH’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages. Share relevant posts from other groups and organizations.
    – Coordinate social media events (Tweetchats, Facebook Live videos, etc.)
    – Strategically recommend which other social media channels may be appropriate from MIH. 
  2. Tell the MIH story through multimedia
    Produce videos to tell stories of MIH clients.
    – Take photos of clients and events that can be used to tell the story. 
  3.  –Create more accessible and user-friendly affordable housing resources for Marylanders with IDD.
    Create materials for targeted audiences to assist them in finding affordable housing opportunities for Marylanders with IDD. These materials will be included on the MIH website and be used as a resource for those researching opportunities around the state.
  4. Explore the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in crafting communications messaging and suggesting other ways it can be used to benefit MIH.
  5. Support the work of MIH regional housing committees around the state through advocacy communications. 


  • Candidate should be working on getting a bachelor’s degree at a university or college in Maryland. 
  • Demonstrated experience and aptitude as a team player.  
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.  
  • Ability and willingness to work from home and to work a flexible schedule that includes regular weekday evening meetings and some weekend meetings.   
  • Access to a vehicle to travel to meetings around the state, with reimbursement for mileage.  
  • Experience or exposure to people with disabilities is desirable.  
  • Bilingualism in Spanish or other languages is desirable. 
  • Experience or knowledge of affordable housing development is desirable. 

Salary & Benefits:   

$21 per hour. Minimum of 10 hours per week. Up to 20 hours per week. Course credit may be available through college or university.
