Compass, Inc. Executive Director Rick Callahan Joins MIH Board

On July 1, Compass, Inc. Executive Director Rick Callahan will become a new member of the Maryland Inclusive Housing Board of Directors.

Rick leads Compass, Inc. in its mission to offer comprehensive support for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Rick is responsible for directing strategic initiatives, which encompass many services such as housing, community living, family support, employment services, and behavioral support. Compass is dedicated to implementing sustainable practices and incorporating emerging technology to support people with IDD in pursuing the lives they desire within their homes, workplaces, communities and relationships.

Rick’s journey as an advocate began during his undergraduate years when he served as a live-in house manager for three young gentlemen with IDD. Witnessing the daily challenges they faced ignited his passion and commitment to advocacy. Rick has a bachelor’s degree in Individual and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology from Penn State University. He is a graduate of three different Leadership programs including Leadership Anne Arundel, University of Delaware Leadership Institute and the National Council of Executive Leadership program.

“I am very humbled and honored to be a Board Member of a grassroots agency that is transforming what housing should look like for people with IDD,” said Callahan.

“Rick has been a leader in creating innovative housing arrangements for people with IDD for many years,” said MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens. “As the MACS representative to the MIH board, he will bring tremendous assets to our work.”

He will join CEO of N. Burton Consulting, LLC Nick Burton; retired Maryland Department of Health Director for Fiscal Services, Operations Valerie Roddy; and Athelas Institute, Inc. CFO Ron Taylor as new Board members.
