On July 1, retired Maryland Department of Health Director for Fiscal Services and Operations Valerie Roddy will become a new member of the Maryland Inclusive Housing Board of Directors.
Valerie served as the Director of Fiscal Services and Operations for Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) from 2013-21.
She was responsible for the oversight and management of a $1.2 billion budget which funded a network of 200+ providers that supported 22,000 people with developmental disabilities in the community and the operation of two state-run facilities. This included personnel, purchasing, contract management, and the operation of the information technology system.
In this time, Valerie led two major transformation efforts: the replacement of the obsolete IT system and the creation of a new reimbursement schedule for service providers.
Valerie also served in the positions of Chief of Staff, Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health & Disabilities and Deputy Secretary for Public Health Services for the Maryland Department of Health from 2006-12.
She was responsible for communication with department and administration leadership, oversight of daily operations, data analysis, policy development, prioritization of tasks, problem solving, and facilitation of special projects.
From 1982-2005, Valerie served in various positions for the Baltimore County Government, with continuing career advancement, including senior operating and capital budget analyst, program administrator, and bureau chief.
Valerie holds a degree from Salisbury University, and additional course work at the University of Baltimore and Essex Community College.
“Valerie’s extensive and impressive years of work with State government in Maryland will be a huge resource to MIH as we continue to build a successful partnership with the State of Maryland,” said MIS Executive Director Tim Wiens.
She will join CEO of N. Burton Consulting, LLC Nick Burton; Compass, Inc. Executive Director Rick Callahan; and Athelas Institute, Inc. CFO Ron Taylor as new Board members.
