MIH Welcomes Director of Housing Char McCready

MIH introduced Charmeda “Char” McCready, MNM as the organization’s Director of Housing on Sept. 5, 2023.

In her role, Char will develop new and continue to support existing MIH’s regional housing committees, while serving as the organization’s lead in strategic planning around the development and identification of affordable and accessible housing and housing support resources for Marylanders with IDD and their families.

“I am wholeheartedly honored to become a member of the MIH team,” said Char. I’m especially looking forward to working with various housing coalitions to increase opportunities for individuals with disabilities statewide.”

Char comes to MIH with 23 years of experience focused on housing, human services and nonprofit management. Her most recent work includes serving as one of the leaders of Baltimore City’s Inclusionary Housing Coalition, a coalition of 20+ organizations with the goal of achieving an effective inclusionary housing law.

Char has vast experience in various nonprofit roles, administrative, management, governance, leadership and volunteering. In 2020, Char founded Nonprofit Resources US, LLC, (NRUS), a nonprofit consulting and grant-writing company that supports marginalized communities. Char has a Standards of Excellence Certification through Maryland Nonprofit’s Standards of Excellence Institute. Mentoring and partnership with the next generation of nonprofit professionals has also been a hallmark of her career.

“I am delighted to welcome Char to the MIH team,” said MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens. “She brings the values, knowledge and community advocacy experience that we need to continue to grow the work of our housing committees across the state.”

In 2012, she earned a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management from Notre Dame of Maryland University and she also has a dual Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies and Economics from Towson University.

She started her housing career in the sector as a multi-year volunteer tester with a local fair housing organization, Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc. Char’s housing career has included serving as the Executive Director of Communities Planning and Housing Association (CPHA), Director of Programs, Baltimore Neighborhoods, Inc. (BNI), Compliance Manager the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), Director of Testing for Fair Housing Rights Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Lead Housing Navigator for the New Futures Bridge Subsidy Program at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).

Char’s work in fair housing has included advocating for marginalized communities, including individuals with disabilities, minorities, families with children, and individuals from the LGBQTIA+ community. She has worked with BIPOC, domestic violence victims, children, the public, women, and seniors and trained numerous individuals over the last 16 years.
