Nearly 100 advocates, supporters, and community leaders gathered at B.C. Brewery in Hunt Valley on Sept. 9 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Maryland Inclusive Housing (MIH) — a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) access safe, affordable, and inclusive housing across the state.
Since its founding in 2020, MIH has helped over 50 Marylanders with IDD secure housing, supporting their ability to live richer and more independent lives. The evening included honors, recognitions, and reflections on the organization’s impactful journey.
Highlights of the celebration included:
A special proclamation from Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier, applauding MIH’s five years of service and its impact on Baltimore County and beyond.
A Governor’s Citation, presented by the Maryland Department of Disabilities Director of Housing Policy & Programs Wayne Reed, on behalf of Governor Wes Moore, recognizing MIH’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing for all Marylanders.
The MIH Founder’s Award was presented to Bernie Simons, former Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), in honor of his visionary leadership and support in launching MIH.
Marlana Hutchinson, Deputy secretary of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), delivered remarks, congratulating MIH on its achievements and offering support as we move into the future.
The MIH Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Diane Dressler, a longtime housing specialist, consultant, and statewide advocate for inclusive housing support services.
In her remarks, Klausmeier emphasized the critical role of affordable housing in supporting Marylanders with disabilities and acknowledged other public officials present for their continued partnership.
The event also raised more than $15,000 in sponsorships, contributing to MIH’s general operating funds and reinforcing community commitment to inclusive housing solutions.
“Tonight’s event was a wonderful celebration of the work done by MIH employees and board members over the past five years. I am proud of our accomplishments and excited about the future,” said MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens.
