Sol connected with MIH through EMBRACE-MD, a University of Maryland program facilitated by Dr. Veronica Kang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education. She will work with Director of Communications Andy Krauss to support MIH’s communications and advocacy initiatives.
“I wanted to join MIH because I’m passionate about disability rights, especially for immigrants and people in underserved communities, who often face extra barriers to getting the services and information they need,” Sol said.
“I’m excited to continue working with Sol as she brings together advocacy, policy and communications through her internship,” Krauss said. “As we approach Maryland’s legislative session, she will help us communicate our policy priorities and build support for expanding housing opportunities for Marylanders with disabilities.”
Sol’s experience includes serving as an undergraduate research assistant in Maryland’s Autism, Family, Culture, and Communication Education Lab. She received a 2026 Autism Science Foundation Undergraduate Summer Research Award for a project focused on creating a culturally sensitive autism resource tool for Korean-American parents. She also serves as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Chair for UMD’s Alpha Omega Epsilon STEM academic sorority.
After graduation, Sol plans to attend law school and pursue a career in disability and immigration law. Her internship offers an opportunity to connect those interests with MIH’s work supporting community living for Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“I’m excited to see how advocacy and policy work happens on the ground and to use my communication skills to help share that work with the community,” she said. “I’m looking forward to learning from the MIH team and supporting their efforts for Marylanders with IDD.”
