On Jan. 28, more than 30 people attended Maryland Inclusive Housing’s (MIH) Legislative Lunch at St. Anne’s Parish in Annapolis, focused on the importance of affordable housing for Marylanders with disabilities. Despite challenging travel conditions, legislators, advocates, and community members gathered to participate in the event.
The Legislative Lunch convened state legislators, advocates, community partners, and Marylanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to introduce MIH’s 2026 State Legislative Agenda and foster meaningful dialogue around inclusive housing policy.
The event was hosted in partnership with Delegate Jennifer White Holland (Baltimore County). Legislators in attendance included Speaker Pro Tem Luke Clippinger (Baltimore County), Senator Brian Feldman (Montgomery County), Delegate Terri Hill (Howard County), and Delegate Jared Solomon (Montgomery County).
MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens, along with Delegates Holland, Clippinger, and Solomon, addressed attendees, examining the current landscape of affordable, inclusive housing in Maryland and highlighting opportunities for action during the 2026 legislative session. Discussions explored strategies to expand housing options and increase funding.
Wiens outlined MIH’s Legislative Priorities, including grant funding for the work of MIH, a $1.25 million investment in the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Rental Subsidy Program (RSP), and recommended changes to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program.
“Housing that is affordable, accessible, and inclusive is needed now more than ever,” said White. “As the legislature continues to tackle the affordable housing crisis, people with disabilities must be at the table. It is critical that we apply disability and equity lenses to ensure that we are promoting housing that meets the needs of all Marylanders. I will continue to partner with constituents, advocates, and organizations like Maryland Inclusive Housing, to make this a reality.”
“I am grateful to everyone who braved the icy conditions to attend our Legislative Lunch in Annapolis,” said Wiens. “We are counting on the support of our partners and elected officials as we advocate for better access to affordable and accessible housing for Marylanders with developmental disabilities.”
