Brian Silvea

Silvea joined the MIH Board after first connecting with the organization as a client. With MIH’s assistance, Brian secured affordable, accessible housing through Howard County’s Moderate Income Housing Unit program in 2024 and now lives independently in Laurel.

An active disability advocate, Brian testified before state lawmakers during Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration budget hearings earlier this year, sharing how stable housing has transformed his life.

“MIH helped me find a place of my own,” said Silvea. “As a member of the Board of Directors, I hope to connect with prospective clients and share how MIH’s services can make a real difference. I want people to know that independent living is possible.”

Brian works as a clerk at Harris Teeter in Maple Lawn and brings valuable lived experience to the Board. He is also a longtime Special Olympics Maryland athlete, recently helping his softball team earn a gold medal. In addition to softball, he enjoys golf and basketball and is a lifelong Orioles and Ravens fan.

“Brian brings a great attitude and the benefit of his lived experience to the MIH Board,” said MIH Executive Director Tim Wiens. “I look forward to his voice being heard and his experience being shared.”
